The Heart & Soul behind Ferns’
Big Ideas Begin Small
We proudly carry forward the legacy of our founder and biggest inspiration, Mrs. Nataline Fernandes whose culinary expertise transformed a quintessential Goan recipe into something inspiring. This enterprising lady decided to take her culinary skills and turn them into a brand. Her recipes of proprietary pastes & pickles are now a globally sought kitchen necessity.
Here’s her story.
Moving from Goa to Kirkee (now Khadki) in Pune, India, in 1927 with her spouse, Mrs. N. Fernandes steadily refined her culinary skills. She prepared and successfully sold preserves and pickles locally.
People quickly fell in love with her unique creations- which included Brinjal and Lime Pickles; Lemon Squashes; and Mango Jellies. In 1937, the brand Ferns’ was born through this success.
Her fresh and unique products were a big hit among British soldiers and their families who were based in Pune. All they wanted was delicious curries without having to prepare them on their own- and Mrs. Nataline provided them just that!
A pioneer of wet condiment curry pastes, through her diverse range, her cooking creations became favorites for locals who wanted to cook various recipes using local spices and ingredients!
Over time, the world has changed a lot. But today, Mrs. Nataline’s family carries forward her legacy by producing high-quality pastes and pickles with the same fervor as she did in Pune. Mrs. Fernandes planted the seed to bear the fruits of success Ferns’ has achieved today!

Avant-Garde & Futuristic Modern, our latest factory spans over 20,000 sq. ft., which allows us to ramp up production quantity, without taking a dip in the quality! The factory also has an HVACC Ventilation System installed, that keeps the environment dust-free and maintains the required temperature for longer shelf life. The food factory has been built under strict BRCGS (Brand Reputation Compliance Global Standard, UK) guidelines and adheres to GFSI Health and Safety Parameters.
The main bottling plant is completely automated, with machinery imported from Holland and Taiwan. Each Product Batch is made to go through in-house QC testing through our Laboratory facilities. Currently, Ferns’ follows an integrated Food Safety System that is updated every year since its incorporation in 1988.

Brian Fernandes (M.D.)
At the helm of Ferns', today is Brian Fernandes MD, the grandson of Mrs. Fernandes, who is a firm believer in preserving the originality and quality of Ferns’. Having first-hand experience in the factory in his youth, under his father’s guidance, Brian envisioned a completely automated system that would not compromise on the quality of Ferns’, while abiding by Mrs. Fernandes’ vision and standards. The brand has traveled and established itself around the world due to his dedication and passion for Ferns’!
